The Ministry of Road Transport which was selling vehicle bulk data to companies has decided to stop selling data further. IFF in this past has made submissions to stop sharing of vehicle data. While the department has stopped sale of anonymized bulk data. They still allow individual level sale of data and share all of this data with agencies like National Crime Records Bureau.
There is a long history to why this is all happening, it starts with National Data Sharing and Accessibility Policy of 2012. But the policy recommends classifying data first, which often departments ignore.

Also the ministry has only stopped further sale of data and data sold to these 142 companies still exists with them. These are the companies which bought the data, almost all of them are FinTech firms.
