Follow-up letter to National Commission for Safai Karamcharis

We have sent a follow-up letter to the National Commission on Safai Karamcharis seeking an update on the joint letter dated May 30, 2022. In the letter, we have re-stated our concerns over the increasing surveillance of sanitation workers and re-iterated our demands that the mandatory use of tracking devices be curbed and workers are provided compensation.

In our previous letter, co-signed by 18 organizations and over 180 individuals, we highlighted how using surveillance and tracking devices dehumanizes sanitation workers. Earlier, we discovered through an RTI response how the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh is using human tracking watches on sanitation workers and is determining their wages based on the reports from the devices.
