IFF Event | Settled Habits, New Tricks: Casteist Policing Meets Big Tech in India: 18th June Friday

IFF is hosting a conversation with the authors of the positively received paper, “Settled Habits, New Tricks: Casteist Policing Meets Big Tech in India” on 18th June, Friday at 5pm.

This will highlight the work of authors, Ameya Bokil, Avaneendra Khare, Nikita Sonavane, Srujana Bej and Vaishali Janarthanan for the IFF Community and wider audiences with the hope of integrating further scholarship and advocacy in this area within India.

In the authors words, “Big Tech is reinforcing and accelerating a system of caste-based discrimination in India and reinforcing the power and impunity of its police”. We will talk about caste and criminality, predictive policing, the ossification of police knowledge into algorithms, and the creation of a digital caste system. IFF hopes to channel public attention to the authors and the Criminal Justice and Police Accountability Project.
