Our letter to MeitY: Open Your Closed Doors!

On the basis of recent media reports, we wrote a letter to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (“MeitY”), highlighting our concerns of possible exclusion of civil society from deliberations on the Digital Personal Data Protection Bill, 2022 (“DPDPB, 2022”). We made a case for open door deliberations on the proposed legislation and its impact, given that the DPDPB, 2022, imposes duties and penalties on data principals, i.e., civilians.

This letter followed a previous letter (IFF/2022/098) we wrote to the MeitY requesting that an open, deliberative, transparent, public consultation process be opted for, while drafting the DPDPB, 2022.
