We wrote to MeitY requesting them to extend the consultation deadline for the proposed amendments to the IT Rules in relation to online gaming

We have written to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (“MeitY”), requesting them to extend the period of consultation for the Proposed draft amendments to the IT (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 in relation to online gaming and provide stakeholders a fresh 30-day period to respond, as recommended by the Pre-Legislative Consultation Policy, 2014.

The online gaming industry is a rapidly growing and dynamic industry, and the proposed amendments will have far-reaching ramifications for the industry and its stakeholders. The draft guidelines were published on the official website of the MeitY on January 02, 2023, with a submission deadline of January 17, 2023. Hence, the current consultation period of 15 days is insufficient to allow for meaningful engagement and input from the industry and other stakeholders.
