Yesterday, I had the chance to moderate a webinar co-hosted by YP Foundation and IFF to discuss online abuse and harassment in the aftermath of the Boiz Locker Room incident. The discussants highlighted the need for a contextual understanding of privacy on digital platforms and shared concerns about the failure of social media companies to adequately invest in content moderation in developing countries. We also discussed how anonymity can be a double edged sword but concluded that it was necessary to protect the interests of women and other marginalized groups.
