Why India needs a legal instrument to tackle online hate? Sharing a short research I published last year

Summary: An increasing number of incidents of extremist hate and violence globally are fueled by unregulated online platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube, whose unconscionable algorithms amplify hate for profit. A robust content moderation system, then, is the need of the hour. This article explores the contemporary content moderation laws in some countries like the UK, taking that as a precedent for what an effective content moderation system can look like and who can implement it. The article concludes that an effective content moderation system should clearly define what constitutes hate speech, improve the efficacy of the monitoring process by combining the current tools being used to identify hate speech, develop concrete ways to regulate it, and allow users to appeal decisions on content removal and reach constraints.
