This month we took one step towards internet freedom, but two steps back on privacy. It was a big win for digital rights when Calcutta High Court stayed the internet shutdown order in West Bengal. But remember, the moral arc of justice is a curved slope, not an upward linear journey! Data privacy and security concerns have increased, especially with the government’s latest Draft India Data Accessibility & Use Policy, 2022 and The Criminal Procedure (Identification) Bill, 2022 passing both houses of Parliament.
