Hi everyone! I’m Asvatha. I am a PhD student at American University, Washington DC. I am currently in Chennai, working on my dissertation studying the development and use of FR by law enforcement in Chennai. I am still in the initial stages of designing my study so if anyone has thoughts on what kind of empirical study would be most useful rn, I would love to discuss.
I am wondering if anyone knows local organizations or activists in Chennai or Tamil Nadu working on: 1) pushback against the use of FR by police or 2) educating/raising awareness among the public (especially those most at risk of being targeted by these technologies) on this use and its consequences. Or if anyone is aware of organizations elsewhere that are either working with the police on trainings and such, I would love to hear about them as well.
