As part of our efforts to prevent the misuse of digital technologies in the run up to and during the 2024 General Elections, we have prepared an Open Letter to electoral candidates, political party members and parliamentary representatives on the potential impact of deepfakes on electoral outcomes. In this letter, we urge them to declare that they will not use deepfake technologies to create deceptive or misleading synthetic content in context of their candidacy for the 2024 Elections. The focus of the letter is on how political actors may use such technologies, rather than regulatory interventions.
