Recently, the Department of Consumer Affairs sent a letter (Letter No. J-24/34/2023-CPU) to Retailers Association of India (RAI) and Industry Associations like FICCI, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, CII, ASSOCHAM and CAIT to stop compelling consumers to submit their mobile number as mandatory pre-condition for sale.
We wrote a letter addressed to the Secretary, Department of Consumer Affairs appreciating their effort to protect the personal information of all consumers. In our letter, we also highlighted the urgent need for a comprehensive law on data protection to ensure the safety of personal information.
