We wrote to the Standing Committee on Home Affairs about the 3 new criminal law bills

We wrote to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs, tasked with examining the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, and the Bharatiya Sakshya Bill, 2023, urging them to hold public consultations on the bills.

The 3 bills were referred to the Committee for examination & report within 3 months. The Committee has scheduled meetings from September 11 to 13 to hear the views of domain experts, however there has been no call for public consultations yet.

We filed a Right to Information (RTI) request with the Ministry of Home Affairs enquiring about & asking for a copy of all the comments/ feedback received, including the final report submitted by the National Level Committee for Reforms in Criminal Laws.

We also filed an RTI request with the National Law University, Delhi requesting a copy of the final report and a copy of the comments received during the expert consultation process undertaken by the National Level Committee for Reforms in Criminal Laws.
